Enzymes have been used in the poultry industry for a long time. Traditional application of feed enzyme includes improving digestion and overall performance of the poultry birds. At basic level the poultry feed contains proteins, starch, fat and fiber. The fiber components are considered as a waste at some instance and compound (NSP) can exert antinutritive affect on the health of the poultry bird. The main poultry feed like wheat and rye consist of high amount of arabinoxylans or pentosans which can cause low performance in poultry birds. The increases viscosity of digesta by ingestion of NSP reduce the passage rate of the feed which leads to overall reduction in the consumption of the feed and cause decreases performance, loose or sticky dropping and dirty eggs. The addition of the enzymes externally with the feed can address NSP viscosity and improve feed efficiency, performance and increase the intake of feed. To obtain maximum benefit from the enzyme it is necessary to choose the enzyme on the basis of feed composition and the enzymes must match with the substrates. Enzyme cocktails containing more than one enzyme will help in improving the response as compared to single enzyme.
